Globalization in my opinion is a difficult term to describe. This is probably because there are so many aspects to it. But I think that globalization refers to the increasing unification of the world's economic order through reduction of such barriers to international trade as tariffs, export fees, and import quotas. The goal is to increase material wealth, goods, and services through an international division of labour by efficiencies catalyzed by international relations, specialization and competition. It describes the process by which regional economies, societies, and cultures have become integrated through communication, transportation, and trade.
Dimensions of globalization The dimensions of globalization are very closely related to each other. Today the main dimensions of globalization are: the economic dimensions, the environment dimension, the social dimension, the cultural dimension and the political dimension.I expected some little comment on each dimension!
Causes of globalization The main factors that led to the globalization were: The technology (internet), transport costs and speed of transport, the end of the cold war, the global problems (climate, migration), and the liberalisation. I expected some little comment on the causes!
Effects of globalization Among the most important effects are the standardization of products and services, seduction of barriers and economies of scale. The standardization of products means that they have little or no variation between different countries or regions where it is distributed. If a product needs to be significantly modified to get into another region, this is no longer a standard product. The seduction of barriers, has introduced the so-called mass consumption products, allowing access to these many countries. The economy of scale can make them more competitive with low-cost strategies, using plant capacity, increasing productivity and distributing fixed costs over a larger number of units. This wasn't in the original, but it is a good contribution.
Some advantages of globalization
Increased free trade between nations.
Increased the communications between nations.
The cultural barriers reduce.reduction of cultural barriers
There is a propagation of democratic ideals.
The liquidity of capital increases.
Some disadvantages of globalization
Greater risk of diseases being transported unintentionally between nations.
International bodies like the world trade organization infringe on national and individual sovereignty.
Threat that control of world media by a handful of corporations will limit cultural expression.
Increased likelihood of economic disruptions in one nation effecting all nations.
